Anki
From their website, "Anki is a flashcard program that helps you spend more time on challenging material, and less on what you already know."
Essentially, it is a tool that uses flash cards to help you learn and remember things. In the case of learning Japanese, it helps with learning new words and grammar.
Notetype
A notetype is a template to create Anki cards with. Lapis is one that works really well for our purposes. It has the ability to show a gif or image, along with a sentence and/or words, as well as play audio that fits that note.
Additionally, Lapis is natively supported by HoshiReader and works well with Mpvacious.
Settings
I find that enabling FSRS works really well for me. Along side this, I use the heatmap plugin to motivate me to keep up with my reviews.
AnkiConnect
With AnkiConnect installed, Yomitan can create cards directly through the API. This will come in useful when adding new cards to your mining deck.
What cards do I make?
Whenever I find a word that I'm interested in knowing, or feel like will be useful to know, I mine it. There's very little reason to mine esoteric vocabulary, and the capacity to memorise things is limited, so we should be picky about what cards we mine to prevent burnout.
